yet another article on ICT in Education.
From my personal experience:
my daughter went to one of the best private college prep high schools in Silicon Valley. How much of ICT did they use? Well, she was doing her homework using computer from the 1st grade - MS Word, Powerpoint, Excel; most of the project research has been done on-line; school had real nice web site and e-communication channels set up with parents and students. However, the role of the teacher in her education was very important, she did very well in small classes where she was getting more personal attention from the teacher... What does this mean? It means that ICT has a great place in education, however teachers qualifications matter even more.
When we are talking about the developing countries, I think we need to focus on first things first - getting qualified teachers in and then enabling ICT as a tool that could be used by teachers, students and parents - only as a tool, not as a replacement.
